The calculation
Convert packed length, width and height to metres, multiply them, then multiply by the number of identical cartons. In centimetres: length × width × height × cartons ÷ 1,000,000.
Use packed measurements
Measure the export carton or crate rather than the bare product. Pallets, protection and irregular shapes can change the booked volume.
Why weight still matters
A carrier may compare volume with a weight-based measure. The larger chargeable measure can apply, subject to that carrier's rules.
